Leeds United fans packed out the Ewood Park away end during their side’s pre-season friendly clash against Blackburn Rovers
Leeds United’s fanatic away day followers got their first taste of an away end for almost 18 months on Tuesday night.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side took on Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, with 5,000 Leeds fans there to cheer their side during a 1-1 draw.
Following on from Tuesday night’s trip to non-league Guiseley which saw Mark Jackson take charge of an under-23s side, Bielsa named a strong side to face their Championship hosts, with Junior Firpo making his first appearance in a Leeds shirt.
For the fans, this was the first time they packed out an away end since the win over Hull City in February 2020, 17 long months ago, with the ongoing pandemic meaning no fans were able to watch their side lift the Championship trophy a year ago and – bar the final day crowd of around 8,000 fans at Elland Road – surge to a ninth-place Premier League finish last season.
While the match itself will not go down as an all-time classic, with Pascal Struijk’s 81st-minute equaliser cancelling out Conor McBride’s deflected free-kick, the atmosphere will live long in the memory of those in the away end, with the Leeds squad applauding the travelling fans following the final whistle.
