Leeds funnyman Danny Malin squirms trying fish and chip shop’s ‘snot rag’ oysters – but still gives it 10/10

Leeds legend and popular YouTube host of Rate My Takeaway is back taking on a new challenge.

But this time, it’s one he’s not too comfortable with.

It’s fair to say that Danny will take on pretty much anything and is always open to heading to new places to try new takeaways.

But this was a challenge that he might not have been looking forward to as much as his others.

Danny, who admitted he’s not a huge fish fan headed down to Headingley to one of Leeds’ most popular eatery – Catch.

Catch Seafood restaurants stretches back nearly 100 years. Originally founded in the north east, the family-run business began back in the 1920s, catching and supplying fish to the local area. Since then Catch has grown into Halifax, Holmfirth and Harrogate.

Danny was a huge fan of the fish and chips

Led by managing director Sarah Stuttle, Catch prides itself on putting a modern but respectful twist on the classical fish and chip restaurant with stylish fittings, lighter and healthier menu options, a broader selection of drinks and a relaxed but professional service.

They moved to Leeds earlier this year.

Danny arrived and did his usual – set up his own table outside and prepared for the good to arrive.

To begin with, he ordered the classic large fish and chips.

Danny said: “This fish is immense – so, so good.

“And the chips, in beef dripping sauce – it reminds me when I were a kid when me mam were cooking roast taters. They’re nice and soft but a good crisp on em on the edge.

“It’s the meal o’ kings, is that!”

Danny also gave the black pudding fritters a try. He said: “They’re alright you know – I love black pudding, and it’s nice in this beef dripping and batter.

“You either love black pudding or you hate it and I love it!”

But after these, things took a turn for the worse for good old Danny – as he was not a fan of the oysters, king prawn bao bun or the calamari.

He said: “The calamari is definitely not something I would usually go for – I don’t like it.”

He was not a fan of a couple of his selections!

When he tried the king prawns, he said: “I think I need to stay in my comfort zone with fish!”

But it was the oyster’s which had Danny must uncomfortable.

He said: “It’s like a snot rag!

“It’s got barnacles on it and all sorts!”

After building up the courage with some help of a few locals jeering him up, Danny tried the oysters.

Although he wasn’t a fan of the aformentioned, Danny still loved his fish and chips – stating it’s the best he’s tried in Leeds giving Catch a solid 10/10.
