Leeds United target stands-out and Celtic signing would have been ‘perfect’ for Whites

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Sunday, August 8:

Dan James looking forward to Leeds visit

It is no secret that Dan James has been a target for Leeds over the last few years and he continues to be linked with a move to Elland Road.

However, with Marcus Rashford’s injury and Jadon Sancho not being quite ready for first-team involvement at Manchester United, he is expected to be part of Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s plans over the next few weeks.

Speaking after the Red Devils’ 4-0 friendly win against Everton, the Wales winger said he could not wait for the first Premier League game of the season against Leeds next week. He said: “I can’t wait. I think everyone is exactly the same. What a game to have first, Leeds United.”

Celtic signing would have been “perfect”

Following the departure of Kiko Casilla this summer, Leeds acted quickly to sign a replacement by bringing Kristoffer Klaesson to the club.

With the goalkeeper only being 20 years old, playing back up to 21-year-old Illan Meslier, it is a decision that a handful of pundits have questioned due to the lack of experience. Ex-Whites midfielder David Norris identified Joe Hart as a more appropriate acquisition in an interview with Football Fancast.

The former England number one moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Celtic where he will be anticipating more first-team involvement as they look to take the Scottish title back from rivals Rangers.

Leeds target stands out for Fulham

Fabio Carvalho, who is reportedly a target for a few Premier League sides including Leeds, was heavily involved in Fulham’s 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough.

The 18-year-old showed glimpses of the quality which has piqued the interest of top-flight clubs such as West Ham United and Norwich City. Talk surrounding his future has clearly not distracted him as he was one of his side’s key performers earlier as The Cottagers could only manage a point in their opening game of the season.

If he was to sign for Leeds, it is unclear whether he would be introduced directly to the first team or if he would initially join up with the U23s.
