Former president Jacob Zuma has been chosen to lead the South African National Civic Organization (Sanco) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
Due to his advanced age and poor health, questions have been raised about the former head of state’s competence to lead the organization.

Following his arrest for contempt of court in 2021, Zuma was given medical parole because of a terminal illness, he only spent two months of his sentence.
The 80-year-old’s job as Sanco’s newly elected chairperson is to address the socioeconomic problems that communities in the province are facing.
Thulani Gamede, the provincial secretary for Sanco, supported Zuma’s appointment and claimed that his ability to operate as the provincial chairperson of Sanco will not be affected by his age.

“He is (soon to be) 81 years old but you can see that the man is still fresh, even when he takes to the podium he speaks volumes, so I don’t see anything wrong with president Zuma.”
