Leeds United’s U23 side put in a brilliant performance on Saturday afternoon as they beat Manchester City U23s 4-0 in a friendly.
There were goals for star performers Max Dean and Crysencio Summerville while new signings Amari Miller and Sean McGurk were also on the scoresheet.
They weren’t the only new faces involved at Thorp Arch as Kristoffer Klaesson and Lewis Bate also started for the Whites. Adam Forshaw was once again involved as he continued to show promising signs of returning to full fitness.
The fixture was the U23s’ last before they get their PL2 campaign underway next Monday night away at Crystal Palace.
Footage emerged on social media of McGurk’s debut goal which featured an impressive solo run following a lovely driven assist from fellow new boy, Bate.
Miller’s first goal for the U23s was also uploaded to Twitter as he showcased typical Leeds pressing before finishing well.
It must be added that the Man City team was depleted as a result of a number of their youngsters being involved in the matchday squad for the first-team’s Community Shield loss against Leicester City.
However, that didn’t dampen the excitement amongst the Leeds supporters on Twitter who were only too happy to share their opinions on such an excellent result.
Here’s what they had to say.
@B_Huds0n said: That’s class, nice to see the new lads on the scoresheet and bate with the assist.
@XDoubleDamageX claimed: It’s Summerville’s world and we’re all living in it!
@Unionlib declared: The future’s bright.
The clip of McGurk’s goal also drew plenty of praise from the fans and they will be keeping a keen eye on his development this season following his move from Wigan Athletic this summer.
@jasoneaton80 said: There’s a player full of talent. Had options in the box but trusts his ability to beat players and score.
@ronaallleeds quipped: I can see why we wouldn’t give up on this lad.
