Revellers who test positive for coronavirus at this year’s Leeds Festival could be forced to self-isolate in a separate campsite, organisers have revealed.
Plans for a ‘self-isolation site’ were outlined by Melvin Benn, managing director of organiser Festival Republic, at a committee meeting today (Tues), the majority of which was held behind closed doors.
Mr Benn added each person attending the festival will have to test negative for Covid-19 every three days – even if they have been fully vaccinated.

Asked what the procedure would be if someone tested positive for the virus, Festival Republic chief Melvin Benn said a isolated Covid campsite will be available for anyone who can not make it home.
Mr Benn added anyone who returns a positive test will have their wristbands taken away to prevent them from sneaking out of the site.
“But we are trusting that people will do the right thing,” he said.
It is likely that people would only spend one night at the ‘isolation campsite’ before travelling home the next day.

Plans to tackle drug harm were also discussed at today’s committee meeting after the tragic death of 17-year-old Anya Buckley at the 2019 event in Bramham Park.
Drug information stands will be present in the arena section for the first time in the festival’s history, said Mr Benn, and a “#LookOutForEachOther” campaign is set to be launched closer to the festival’s start date.
